Wet/Moldy Crawl Space?

Too often, the crawl space is considered an after thought to homeowners. The fact is, however, air circulating through the crawl space can have a lasting impact on the overall air quality of your entire home. Leaving a dirty, wet and moldy crawl space unattended not only is a waste of potential storage space, but may have an effect on the health of your family. Sealing and insulating the crawl space provides a clean and usable area, protecting your family from radon gas, toxic mold, unwanted pests and harmful airborne allergens.

Step by step for installation of sump pump pit cover:

Photo # 1: Installing the optional sump pit cover may require you to cut the discharge pipe. Before cutting the discharge pipe unplug the sump pump. After cutting the discharge pipe, place the sump pit cover base plate over the pipe and place under the liner (if installed), cutting the liner a little may be necessary. Apply the Super Bond sealer on the top of the base plate under the liner and press the liner down, sealing the liner to the base plate. If you have to cut the liner, seal with the White seaming tape. Always use caution when unplugging or plugging in electrical devices in wet or damp areas!

Photo # 2: Installing the sump pit cover. The cover comes in three parts, the center support, half cover with viewing window and the other half cover solid. Measure where the discharge pipe will come through the cover and the outside diameter of the discharge pipe and cut a hole (a hole saw works great. For example: If your pipe is 1-½” ID you will need to use a hole saw size of 2-¼” to match the OD of the pipe or you can use a utility knife) in the solid half cover. You will need to make a notch (with your utility knife) on one side of the hole for the electrical cord to come up through as well. Always use caution when unplugging or plugging in electrical devices in wet or damp areas!

Photo # 3: Place the solid half cover with hole over the cut discharge pipe, make sure you feed the electrical cord through at this time, and position it over the sump pit and base plate. Screw the cover down to the base plate. Seal around the discharge pipe and electrical cord with the Super Bond sealer. Reconnect the discharge pipe with a rubber coupling (not included) or repair with a connector (not included) as required. After discharge pipe is reconnected, plug in the sump pump. Always use caution when unplugging or plugging in electrical devices in wet or damp areas!

Photo # 5: Place the half cover with viewing window in place and screw down to base plate. You have just finished sealing your sump pit and stopping moisture, odors and radon gas from entering your crawl space and home.

Photo # 6 : You have just sealed your sump pump pit, preventing just another way that moisture and radon gas had from entering your home.
